Sedgemoor 1685 Marlborough's First Victory
Ottoman Warfare 1500-1700, Rhoads Murphy
ISBN 0-8135-2585 Price: I have forgotten but not at all cheap
Good Points
Has a good discussion on logistics and the resources available to the Army in terms of money etc. It also provides a top-level chronology of the period. The front cover shows that field artillery were unpainted!
Bad Points
It simply isn't about Ottoman warfare. There are only 26 pages devoted to aspects of the actual fighting and the points are top-level, superficial discussion. You won't find a proper discussion on battle tactics in the entire book. There are no diagrams of battles.
This book is a huge opportunity wasted.
Value for Money: 5 (if you like logistics etc.) 2 otherwise

Sedgemoor 1685 Marlborough's First Victory, John Tincey
ISBN 1-845415-147-6 Price: £19.99
Good Points
A complete and very refreshing discussion of the events leading up to, the actual battle and the salient points of the aftermath. The book also contains some absolutely fantastic new findings that I won't disclose as it would spoil it for you. A veritable mine of information and very well written too!
Bad Points
The book doesn't discuss the impact of the developments in technology since the Great Rebellion in sufficient detail to explain why the tactics were as they were. However, Society members will not be troubled by that as they know all that anyhow.
Value for Money: 8
